Bristol MetaSkin collaboration

Bristol MetaSkin collaboration

Researchers at the University of Bristol are investigating the design and development of artificial skin to benefit Epidermolysis Bullosa sufferers.

Dr Naghavi Zadeh and colleagues are collaborating with Sharmila Collins, Founder and Trustee of Cure EB, to understand life with EB and care requirements. The project brings together their academic expertise in structural mechanics, material science, soft robotics and medical ethics, with Sharmila’s wealth of experience as a parent of a daughter with RDEB and as founder of a charity which funds research projects in all EB sub-types.

At the end of the project, the aim is to share conceptual prototypes for a second skin and to explore avenues to take these concepts forward to improve quality of life for EB patients.
