Not all EB patients will get cancer. However, patients with Dominant Dystrophic EB, Recessive Dystrophic EB, generalized junctional EB and Kindler Syndrome are at an increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), an aggressive form of skin cancer which is usually fatal. Therefore, while we search for a cure, we also need to search for treatments to prevent and slow the progression of EB-associated SCC.
