An internationally recognized physician and researcher\, Dr. Tolar is known for his care of patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. She received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Human Physiology in 2001 at Donetsk National University\, Ukraine\, and her Doctor’s degree (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry in 2007 at the University of Colorado\, USA. Research in her laboratory is focused on studying skin and connective tissue diseases\, such as Epidermolysis Bullosa and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and developing therapeutic approaches for these conditions. Dr. Bilousova also directs the Stem Cell Biobank and Disease Modeling Core at the University of Colorado and oversees the generation and genetic engineering of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for the research community. The trial was funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in partnership with NHS England and NHS Improvement as well as a grant from Cure EB. \nThe Mission EB study was a double blind\, placebo-controlled\, cross-over study evaluating the safety and efficacy of mesenchymal stromal cells\, or MSCs (a type of stem cell) in 30 pediatric patients in the UK with intermediate or severe RDEB. \nSince study completion\, INmune Bio has made an agreement with GOSH for exclusive commercial use of the data and will market the treatment as CORDStrom.
